BTAS signs contract with Thales to provide unified communications platform, network integration and support
Sydney, November 17 2009 – BTAS, a leading independent professional services organisation and systems integrator, today announced it has signed a three-year contract with Thales Australia to provide an Alcatel-Lucent upgrade, network integration and support.
Thales Australia is a trusted partner of the Australian Defence Force and is also present in commercial sectors ranging from air traffic management to security systems and services. Employing around 3,500 people in more than 35 sites across the country, Thales Australia recorded revenues of more than AUD$1 billion in 2008.
Gavin Jones, chief executive officer, BTAS, said, “BTAS has been working to establish a strong partnership with Thales for more than three years, after winning a contract for its Rydalmere site.
“This new contract cements and broadens BTAS’ partnership with Thales to provide it with a holistic approach to technology so its sites are not working in isolation.”
The upgrade will cover a number of Thales’s main sites including Garden Island and Rydalmere in Sydney, World Trade Centre – Melbourne and Bendigo in regional Victoria.
It involves a significant investment by Thales in its Garden Island head office, a complex and sizable site with security concerns and old buildings, which required a staged approach to the project to ensure minimal disruption.
Roger Daix, vice president of operations, Thales, said, “The key drivers for this project were risk mitigation and leveraging technology to future proof Thales with a solution that is scalable and migratable, while assisting with corporate compliance and global alignment, including open standards.
“Thales has an existing agreement with Alcatel-Lucent in France and, as a global leader in the industry, was the platform of choice for this project.
“The strategic vision of BTAS and Thales aligned making it the perfect Alcatel-Lucent partner to perform the upgrade and network integration to improve efficiency of Thales.”
Mark Buckley, vice president, Alcatel-Lucent enterprise group Australasia, added, “Alcatel-Lucent’s range of IP telephony and unified communications solutions helps companies such as Thales leverage their existing assets at the same time as preparing them for the future.
“In addition new applications, presence and collaboration tools all deliver productivity gains while reducing costs."
